You will have an unique feeling with dignity and gravity in this religious mountain, which was established by Dengyodaishi Saicho in 789.
All the temples are surrounded by giant ceders. Many monks are practicing Buddhism all days.
The oldest temple in Hieizan is the 'Syaka do' in Saito area build in 1300, but it has been moved from other place.
In 1567, almost all the temples have been attacked with fire by NOBUNAGA ODA.
In this trail, you can also enjoy the nice view of Biwako lake at east side and Yase from Tsutsujigaoka at west side.
