This route is loved by Kamakura residents with many historical monuments, nice view and quiet circumstance even it is very close to Kamakura city center. Start point is the JR Kita-Kamakura station where it takes around one hour from Tokyo station through Yokosuka line.
Kencho ji temple has been constructed in 1253 by Ranryu-Dokei. It is the Head temple of Rinzai-shu (Zen-shu) religious sect. You need to pay at the gate of the temple and could see many old assets. Then the trail is going throgh the temple and up to Hanzoubo temple on top of the hill. At that point, you could enjoy the nice view of Mt. Fuji, Kamakura city center and Pacific ocean coast at the south.
The trail is continuing on the ridge to the east, where is called as 'Kamakura alps' and be loved by local residents. Then you may decent to Kakuen ji tempile from the ridge trail followed by the sign. Many flowers such as Mongolia and Cherry, and interesting small cafe are waiting for you at that area.
It is fun to visit to Kamakura gu shrine, the grave of Yoritomo (Minamoto) who was the founder of Kamakura bakufu (Shogunate government) in 1192, and the Tsuruoka Hachiman gu. Then you can go back to JR Kamakura station.
