It is the part of well known old road named as 'Narita-kaido' which is the pilgrimage road from Edo(Tokyo) to Narita (Shinshoji temple).
From Sakura castle, you may walk up to Narita within one day. In the castle ruin, there are two statue of Masayoshi Hotta (5th lord of Sakura domain, 1810-1864) and Townsend Harris (1804-1878). They have discussed about the 'Treaty of Amity and Commerce Between the United States and the Empire of Japan' signed in 1858.
