Miyajima island, Itsukushima shrine was designated as UNESCO World heritage site in 1996. The first construction was thought to be in AD593, and in 1168 famous head of the warrior, Kiyomori Taira made such large shrine as same as current scale to dedicate to the marine god of security.
In the shrine, many deers are giving a welcome to you.
Famous Big red torii gate are standing in the sea with so beautiful senery.
A lot of souvenir shops and restaurants serve you special Japanese sweet cake called Momiji manju, which simulate the leaf of maple tree.
You will find lot of inns and hotels near the location. If you want to stay in hot spring, I recommend the Gokurakuji-Arcadia-village and you may approarch by using the taxi. It locates in the mountain side but is not so far from the JR station.
