'Tsushima' mainly consists of two islands and connected with 'Manzeki Bridge'. It is located at far west from Tokyo with around 900km. Although there are many sea routes to the island from Fukuoka Port, but airline from the Fukuoka airport is rather convenient. Also, from Pusan port (South Korea) two sea routes are available and many Korean tourests are visiting to this boundary located island.
There is Historic Battlefield during Mongolian Invasion attempt of Japan in Sasuura at the south island. With two attacks by Mongolians (Genko) in 1274 and 1281, it is said that Tsushima and the Iki islands resembled scenes from hell.
'Wadazumi Shrine' is an oceanic shrine dedicated to ancestors of the Imperial Family. It is the primary shrine among Japan's oceanic shrines, and there is an ancient myth of it being the Sea God's Place.
'Tsushima Yamaneko (wild cat)' is endangered animal and designated as National Natural monument (1971) and registered as Red Data Book by Ministry of the Environment in Japan. Every year some numbers of the cats are killed due to the traffic accidents. In Izuhara town, there is a very old temple named as 'Bansho-In (constructed in 1615)' dedicated the 'Soh' cran who has governed the island.
The distance from north end of Tsushima to South Korea is only around 50km, so since 1607 to 1811 Korean envoys have used this island to come to Japan.
